Change Audio Sync With VLC Media Player

with 51 comments

You download a movie and the audio is out of sync with what you see. That is something you can easily fix with VLC.

If you need to adjust your audio because you hear things before you see them press Ctrl L. You need to do this while playing so you can see how much you need to adjust it. It slows it at 50ms at a time.

To speed it up press Ctrl K which will increase at 50ms a time.

  2. Yes it is true. But it is still more simpler to use in Mplayer isn’t it?

  5. This is not correct, least with the version I have. (9.4)

Tools/Preferences/Hot Keys gives a full list of short cuts. The defaults to advance and slow audio relative to video are j and k respectively. Works well btw.

      • or your dumb as a particularly stupid post (no pun intended) and anyone who says it’s not true is lying. Took me about 20 seconds with j and k the fix the audio sync, really it did.

  8. And G and H work for me. I suppose in the future, others will just have to start pushing buttons to find the one that works for them.

  11. VLC SUX! i am running version 9.9 and audio sync is a joke!
the hot keys dont work and trying manually just fucks it up

anybody who says vlc is worth anything should go shoot themselves and just pick up and learn adobe aftereffects which will fix any video problems correctly.

    • VLC works great, I had a problem with the audio sync and it took me some time but i fixed it perfectly, i just had to learn how to do it, you can set your hot keys to whatever you want, if you fucked it up you were obviously doing it wrong. you have every right to have your own preference concerning media players, but please spare the rest of us your useless negativity because it doesn’t help anyone, maybe YOU should go shoot YOURSELF and stop insulting other peoples opinions and preferences just because you don’t know how to do it right

      • VLC sucks without doubt.I respect that its an open source but that does not cover the fact that it has half the functions not working. Here is an eg to satisfy your useless brain:I got the latest download to learn that the desync does not work,so i got the lower version where it was “supposed” to work.-But- even this version has issues, infact it did not install. Then i got to a even lower version which has the desync but does not work as expected. Here is the long answer to a small brained fucker like you.If someone gives wisdom, take it.

      • @ “J.B’s real dad” you are an ignorant piece of shit, why are you even commenting on this page? it it a help page not a complaints department you stupid fucking moron. and where do you get the nerve to insult other people’s intelligence when you apparently are the only one who can’t figure out how to use it. mine works perfectly once i figured it out, you are just too stupid to do it obviously. and what so called wisdom are you referring to? the only thing you’ve enlightened anyone about is what an ignorant moron you are lol. pathetic.

  14. hmmm…. use ALT & F4 together to automatically sync the audio and video no matter which is delayed from the other.
    ;-)

The one post above mentioned the preferences menu settings though, so this hotkey discussion is really superfluous.

  22. I don’t know how it’s called in English but you can also go to ‘Extra’ and click on the second option. It will open a menu where you can sync your audio/video tracks.

  25. So the audio syncing works fine but I’ve noticed that if I try to seek forward or backward in the video after making any chages to the audio sync the audio cuts out completely and I have to restart vlc. Any ideas?

  30. John and J.B’s real dad, I can hardly comprehend how dimwhitted you appear. You put down poeple for OPINIONS? You should put people down for getting FACTS WRONG, NOT opinions! Opinions are just a person’s thoughts on something. So attacking thoughts? Like they are morally incorrect? A society that claims itself as so “advanced’ is clearly missing something in logic, morality and common sesne.

Sheesh, it appears our society today can’t even respect opinions anymore…like my math teacher once said, “The Duh chromosome. The more advanced sociecy gets, the less people have it.”

  33. Pressing the ‘J’ or ‘K’ keys alone is all you have to do for changing the audio synchronization. Some people just don’t know how to give a straight answer without being assholes. If you don’t want to help others, then just shut the fuck up! Geeeeez

    Marlotti

    March 18, 2012 at 12:26 am

    • Its not always J and K, or K and L for everyone.
Depends on their version. Mine is F and G.
So best to check the audio delay settings in the hotkeys tab in VLC preferences.

      • I know. I don’t see why such dopamine deficient people think they can help others by leaving comments that are rue and hurtful. No need to be rude, but sometimes the neurologically depleted pleasure centers of the brain render one rude, in a delusion that whatever they know EVERYONE also HAS to know too, without realizing not everyone knows what they know (or don’t know, in many cases…).

Adi, your response is good, you’re not back talking and you’re not rude. Just stating the basic facts. It’s not the same for everyone.

        Thanks though! Worked for me!

  36. none of these work for me. I delay the audio or advance it and it makes no change to what I am watching/hearing. All it does is change a number at the bottom of the screen with no change to the actual file that I can see/hear

  37. Most of us understand the one key or another will get the audio in sync with video… however, not one poster answered the real question: after synching them how do you save the fucking file so it can be burned.

  39. Hey! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this site?

I’m getting fed up of WordPress because I’ve had issues with hackers and I’m looking at alternatives for another platform.
I would be fantastic if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
